About

"There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it."

– Alfred Hitchcock

On October 31st, 2016, we held our first annual Haunted Cape Film Festival at Cape Hatteras Secondary School. We were thrilled with the response to our students’ and staff’s short horror film entries and are planning to make an even bigger event for Halloween 2017.

The Festival was a last-minute idea that we just managed to put together by Halloween, but we were so impressed with the films that our students and staff made with such short notice that we can’t wait to see more next year! So start working on those ideas and we look forward to your bone-chilling horrors!

There will be many updates throughout the year as we plan for the 2017 festival. Please check back for any updates and information, or speak to us in the CHSS Media Center.

The Haunted Cape Film Festival will be open to all students and staff of North Carolina middle and high schools, to submit a 1-2 minute horror film in the spirit of Halloween. Films will be shown at the end of October in our school auditorium and here on our website.

Judges will determine winners for several categories, including:

  • Best Picture (High School)

  • Best Picture (Middle School)

  • Best Picture (Staff)

  • Best Lead Acting

  • Best Supporting Acting

  • Best Cinematography

  • Best Editing

Those attending the festival showings will also have a chance to vote for the Audience Favorite.
